Why Continuous
Life is an infinite game, enjoy the journey
Continuous is the Journey
In a typical game there are rules, objectives, strategy, and luck to advance a player or team’s interests to WIN THE GAME. Competition focuses the mind and provides incentives to train, sacrifice, endure, learn, fail, cry, doubt, and overcome.
All of this to win.
But what if you can’t win? What if the game is unwinnable, but you must play?
Sounds a lot like life.
The Infinite Game
In an infinite game, we are not able to win because, well, it is infinite. So what is the point?
Clearly, there is a point. Enjoying what we described as the benefits of competition but for the sake of actually struggling and progressing, rather than the reward of “winning” which brings out in us the concept of the journey as the destination.
Think of the Rocky or Might Ducks movie montage of training, failing, overcoming, and reaching a sense of accomplishment, an accomplishment that is internal before they compete for external rewards.
Why did I start writing about the continuous journey.
I felt compelled. I read books, listen to podcasts, and take actions within my small and limited circle. I think of my son and how this world is moving so fast that having a clear set of thoughts and understanding about the world, the nature of the self, and how to be productive while we are on this planet, or others, will be a superpower in an AI augmented future.
I created Continuous to document, explore, and guide on this journey. I aim to take what I engage with and provide a perspective for you to consider. You can disagree or adoption, either way, you are improving what works for you and building a memorable journey.
Finally, community is important, and yet it is evaporating in the western world. The less we talk and seek to understand each other, the worse things get. Together, we can enjoy this journey more, and together we can build a life that has purpose and passion with compassion.
